I have been living in Düsseldorf for just over 4 years now after
retiring here with my German born husband Horst. I grew up as an 'Army
Brat' and spent 5 years in Germany attending Army boarding schools in Hamm
and Wilhelmshafen. Prior to our move we lived in Rotherfield Peppard, a
small village near Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, with 2 horses, a dog,
two cats and at one stage a pet lamb. After the demise of the larger
animals, and with just the 2 of us in a rambling family house, we felt we
needed a change, so here we are. We are both really enjoying life in a
city as lively, cosmopolitan and cultural as Düsseldorf after our 29 years
in the countryside.
I have 2 grown-up sons, both married and two grand-children, all living in
the UK, so rely heavily on the internet to keep in touch with family and
friends. Before retiring I worked in event management, as Show Secretary
for the Henley and District Agricultural Association which involved
working with local farmers and organising several annual events including
the Henley Show which was attended by over 11,000 visitors, Sheep Dog
Trials, a Ploughing Match and a number of social events.
In my 40's I went to Reading University and obtained an Honours degree in
English Literature and History of Art, I enjoy reading and have recently
returned to painting mainly in Acrylics. I am currently working on
improving my French and also enjoy sewing and cooking.
I am really looking forward to my time as Chairman and will do my best to
work with the committee and members to maintain it's excellent reputation.
