The British Women’s Club was founded in 1946 and has successfully grown over the years to our present membership of around 150. The aims of our Club are to provide the opportunity for British women to meet together regularly and develop their interests and talents with others of like minds and skills, as well as to help them get to know Germany and its people.
Active members are British and
Commonwealth women and the daughters of British and Commonwealth parents. Associate membership - comprising all other nationalities - is also available in accordance with the
Club’s statutes, and these members have all privileges of active members except voting rights. We also have several honorary members and our Honorary President is
Eve Tibber, the wife of the British Consul here in Düsseldorf
The Club year is from January to December and membership is obtained upon completion of an application form (
Email the Membership Secretary directly for a form ), which should be returned to the address on the form together with the annual subscription of € 65. Members are then entitled to receive the current Address Book and a copy of the monthly
Newsletter, giving up-to-date information of
Club events
and
activities. Members who join after 1st July only pay €35 for their membership for that year.
We hold our monthly meetings at a local hotel or at an interesting restaurant, and they normally take the form of a lunch or brunch. These usually take place on the first Tuesday of each month except February, August
and October and all relevant information such as dates, times and costs are given in the Newsletters, produced monthly. A programme of entertainment or a talk on an interesting subject is usually arranged to follow the lunch or brunch. Our Annual General Meeting is held in Feb.
We offer a wide range of activities including bridge, mah-jong, badminton, museum and music clubs, evening meeting in a pub or restaurant for our younger and "young at heart" members, a cinema evening where we see an English film, a baby group for young mums, as well as regular trips/tours within the area. Special activities are reported in the Newsletter.
