80th Birthday Celebrations 2026
A Right Royal 80th Celebration on 20th September 2026
What better way to celebrate 80 years of the British Women’s Club than with good food, plenty of drinks, a magnificent cake and, of course, a dance or two? And that’s exactly what we did!
Sixty-four keen members, partners and friends registered for our 80th anniversary celebration, and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces enjoying the occasion. The food was excellent, the drinks flowed nicely and judging by the general level of chatter, everyone was having a very good time!
Our Sekt reception was made even more special by Maggie Ferrett, who entertained us with some beautiful violin pieces while we enjoyed our drinks and listened. A lovely musical touch to get our celebrations off to a very good start!

From Tricia, our Chairman:
“Today, we celebrate our past with PRIDE, our present with GRATITUDE and our future with OPTIMISM.”

Rosanna Watson, our Consul General, also gave us a warm address to honour the occasion.
And then there was the cake. And what a cake! A magnificent Union Jack creation, made especially for our 80th anniversary. It looked almost too good to cut – but fortunately nobody allowed sentiment to get in the way of eating it! The official cake cutting ceremony was carried out by Tricia and Rosanna. I’m sure there were several pairs of eyes carefully watching to make sure they got a decent-sized slice!

Adrienne Harris, who flew over from the UK especially for the occasion, treated us to a brilliant poem, written by herself, which captured the spirit of the Club beautifully and gave us all plenty to smile about. We also enjoyed a wonderful speech given by Joyce Fuhrmann, looking back at the Club’s history and all that has happened over the past years. Quite a story – and quite an achievement!
But the celebrations certainly didn’t end there. Once the disco got going, the dance floor began to fill – and before long, most of us were up and dancing. Clearly, no barriers for our girls to enjoy a good boogie!
It was a fabulous celebration of 80 years of friendship, fun and the British Women’s Club, and a wonderful reminder that while we may have been around for 80 years, we certainly haven’t slowed down!
And not forgetting our fantastic DJ, Chris, who kept the music going throughout the evening with a brilliant selection of hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s. There was something for everyone — and, judging by the amount of dancing, plenty of members were more than happy to relive their younger years on the dance floor!
Our raffle was another highlight of the evening, with three lovely prizes to win: a Rituals gift set, a wonderful Hamper Basket and a beautifully framed Düsseldorf Scene painting by Editha Hackspiel. There was plenty of excitement as the winning tickets were drawn— and even better, the raffle raised €370 for our charities.
A big thank you to Elvina Pullen and Joyce Fuhrmann who were selling tickets on the door, and to everyone who bought tickets and helped make it such a success!
