Nautical themed Luncheon 2025

Nautical themed Luncheon 2025

AHOI THERE ‘ME HEARTIES written by Stefanie S.

Tricia welcomed the 24 ladies attending the luncheon with an apology that, at very short notice, the planned speaker, Tina P. Sparkle was unable to attend.  Not to be thwarted, the committee provided a very entertaining programme with a nautical theme of shanties, dancing and recitations, as Ms Sparkle’s talk was to have been “Thrills and Spills of Sailing Around the World in the World’s Toughest Yacht Race”.

Pat took to the “helm” and we were treated to a few sea-type “Short & Silly” Limericks/Poems which she read out — here are three of them:

“Storm’s Comin‘!”

Heave ho, tie it tight,
Storm’s a-comin’ in the night!
Barrel’s low and boots are wet,
Best be prayin’ to Neptune yet !

“Rum for Breakfast”

Yo ho ho and a splash of tea,
Add a drop of rum for bravery!
The captain’s grumpy, the cook is loud—
But we’re the jolliest crew around!

“The Lazy Sailor’s Song”

Oh the wind might blow and the sea might roar,
But I’m still napping on the floor.
The anchor’s up, the sails are high—
Wake me when we’re passing by !

Pat then asked Gail if she would like to read out one of her “Captain Crumble” stories entitled “Captain Crumble and the Great Seagull Incident”.

Then she asked Tricia to read out the story of “Captain Crumble and the Merman with a Mustache “.

She then sprang the question to Maggie to see if she would like to read out the last Captain Crumble story entitled: “Captain Crumble vs.The Haunted Hammock”.

That all required some careful planning about sailors and ships.  There were so many ladies who turned up in “nautical” outfits… navy blue and white which added to the ambience.

The lunch was lovely and of course there was fish available!  The raffle was overflowing with prizes.  We all left indeed quite jolly.  Until the next time ‘me hearties…
